IHS Student Cell Phone Policy
Focused, uninterrupted instructional time is important in creating a positive learning environment and supporting student success. To ensure that every student can fully engage and actively participate in the learning process, it is essential to minimize distractions. By adhering to these guidelines, we can work together to foster a respectful and productive educational setting for all.
Students will adhere to the cell phone policy and will be expected to use the Cell Phone Parking Lot in each classroom.
1. As you enter the classroom, turn off your cell phone and place it in one of the numbered pockets. Your teacher will assign a numbered pocket to you.
2. The cell phone parking lot is only accessible before and after class.
3. Students who do not comply will have the following progressive actions:
1st violation-verbal warning and parent contact
2nd violation-parent contact and teacher detention.
3rd violation-office referral
Cell phones may be used before and after school and during the assigned lunch period. Students should minimize use of cell phones during class transition to ensure they are arriving at class on time.
Note: smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, airpods, etc. are not to be used during class time unless permission is granted by the teacher otherwise headphones, airpods, etc. are to be turned off and out of sight in a bookbag.
Student Cell Phone Policy FAQ
Why have a schoolwide cell phone policy? Having a schoolwide cell phone policy ensures consistency across all classrooms and sets clear expectations for students as well as allow teachers to manage the classroom setting to maximize instructional time.
What if there is an emergency and I need to speak with my child during instructional time? The front office staff is available and responsive. Please call the front office at (912) 395-2000. Someone will ensure your child comes to the office to receive the phone call. Staff is also available in the event you need to sign out your child from school.
What if my child needs to contact me during the day? Students will have access to their cell phones before school, during class transitions, lunch, and after school.
Are smartwatches and other connected devices included in this policy? Yes. Those items are prohibited during instructional time. Students will have access to their school issued chromebooks to support their technology needs during instructional time.
